About

Mel's Story

In 1974, I started cleaning carpet to support myself during the slow times of selling door-to-door Electrolux vacuum cleaners in Maine while going to college to become a minister.

I graduated, moved to New Hampshire and pastored a small church while continuing to clean. Later, I came to Minnesota and worked as a bus driver. In 1992, I started Baker's Cleaning Systems and cleaned carpets.

About 2014, I felt like I wanted to retire so I worked with a friend who later bought the business.

After a while, others who knew of me called to see if I could make their carpets smile again. And now I’m back with a focus on doing cleaning and enjoying helping kids with Bikes4KidsMN.

When I’m not cleaning, I’m riding my bicycle. In July 2019, I completed a bike trip from Minnesota to Upper Michigan while camping out to raise funds for Bikes4KidsMN. I’m enjoying the best of both worlds: I’m having fun cleaning carpets and I’m combining my love for riding bikes.
